In Lenovo, we were surprised a few months ago with a ThinkPad P52 that was a beast of the process with 128 GB of RAM, but to that portable workstation, something “coarser” in design now adds a much more stylized variant: the Lenovo ThinkPad P1.

This new workstation in a portable format with a 15.6-inch 4K screen looks more like an ultra-thin device in the X1 Carbon family, but be careful because this design with a thickness of only 18.4 mm hides amazing features. If you want more, by the way, you can also have the new ThinkPad P72 of 17.3 inches.

Technical specifications of the Lenovo ThinkPad P1

The specification sheet of these new teams oriented to professional environments is, as might be expected and ambitious. Although part of a relatively modest basic configuration, the options here can grow significantly, especially in regard to these professional graphics NVIDIA Quadro P1000 (640 Stream Processors) and P2000 (1024 Stream Processors).

Those responsible for Lenovo have wanted to offer a much more compact and lighter alternative to traditional portable workstations, which usually have much higher thicknesses and weight.

In the case of the Lenovo P1, we have that aforementioned thickness of 18.4 mm and a total weight of 1.7 kg. It is not an ultraportable to use, of course, but is that the hardware of this team balances everything else: the 15.6-inch screen (400 nits, assure in Lenovo) with 1080p resolution and touchscreen option and UHD resolution / 4K is the first of those striking features.

As we have seen in those technical specifications, the options are wide for those who need power, since we can count on six-core Xeon processors, with up to 64 GB of RAM and with up to 4 TB of storage in SSD drives in RAID 0 or RAID 1.

The two ports USB-C with interface Thunderbolt 3 are another of the elements of interest of the configuration, and also contains with reader fingerprint and a dongle to have a Gbe port. The battery of 80 Wh is decent, but it is likely that if we work at full power with these professional graphics the autonomy is compromised quickly (here Lenovo does not offer estimates).

This 15.6-inch model comes in fact accompanied by a version with a 17.3-inch screen, the Lenovo ThinkPad P72 that offers up to 6 TB of storage, up to 128 GB of RAM and even option to use 16 GB of Intel memory Optane. This model has even more sharp graphics with the NVIDIA Quadro P5200 as a maximum limit.

Price and availability of the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 and P72

Lenovo has announced that this equipment will be available at the end of August, at least in the United States. There the starting prices will be $ 1,949 for the ThinkPad P1 and $ 1,799 for the ThinkPad P72.
